Healing Homes
The Knowles Centre Healing Homes Program serves youth aged 12 to 17. We have two open units on our campus as well as three open units in the community.
Each client is assigned to work with a Knowles Centre therapist who provides individual, family, and group counseling. Youth also have access to resources, including a consulting psychiatrist, doctor, dentist and optometrist, and attend John G. Stewart School, located on the Knowles Centre grounds.
The Program is suited to clients whose lives have been affected by neglect, emotional, physical and/or sexual abuse, the impacts of intergenerational trauma and racism, and feelings of hopelessness, which often contribute to behavioural and emotional difficulties.
However, there are some young people who present certain symptoms and needs that are significantly different from the resources available at Knowles Centre. Therefore, exclusionary criteria include intellectual or developmental disabilities, acute suicidality, psychosis (hallucinations and delusional behavior), or uncontrollable violence.
