Arthur E. Prior Scholarship

The Arthur E. Prior Scholarship was established by Knowles Centre in 1987 to assist former students or clients meet the costs of pursing further education or training opportunities. Funds for the scholarship were donated to Knowles Centre at the bequest of Mr. Arthur E. Prior.

Mr. Prior grew up in an orphanage, never knowing his parents. As a result, he recognized the difficulties faced by those unable to turn to family for financial support to further their education. Mr. Prior lived his life as a bachelor and, according to a life-long friend, was determined to leave his mark by providing clients of Knowles Centre with an opportunity to pursue their education goals.

What can the Scholarship be used for?

An individual may apply for a scholarship to help meet all or a portion of the costs of an educational program. Eligible expenses that may be covered by the scholarship include tuition, books, student fees, special equipment or clothing, transportation, day care costs, or other costs incurred as a requirement of the training course or program may be considered.

Who can apply?

Applicants must be former students or clients of Knowles Centre's Group Care, Treatment Foster Care, Day Treatment, Sexual Abuse Treatment, or SAIL Programs.

Applicants must have received services for a minimum of six months, beginning when they were age 20 or younger, in one or a combination of programs.

Applicants of all ages are welcome to apply regardless of the dates which they received services.

Clients who first received services as adults, and family members of clients are not eligible.

Interested individuals are requested to submit a completed application form.

There is no deadline to apply for a scholarship. Individuals may submit up to three applications in any year.
